I May Suck. But At Least I Suck Cool.

What is cool? Definition 7 from
Merriam-Webster: 7 slang a : very good : EXCELLENT; also : ALL RIGHT b : FASHIONABLE. And the epitome of fashionable-all-right-excellence for a college house is to have a pool table. If you have a pool table, you are set. This is just the way things go, pool table = the elite. And Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now a member of the elite.

Feast your eyes on the glory. It's not actually felt on the top (it's faux-felt). And it's not slate, it's hardwood. And it's not real leather. Do I actually know how to use the thing? No. I do not. In fact, I suck. But it is a pool table. Seven whole feet of cool-college-guy glory.

Ahh yes.

Ladies, the queue starts behind Reina.

Orange You Glad You're Not Him?.

A few days ago Reina and I carved a pumpkin for Halloween. We decided to name him "Chinese for Pumpkin" as in, the word pumpkin in chinese, but because neither of us knew what that was and it wasn't on
Zhongwen.com, he ended up just being named "Chinese for Pumpkin." CfP was a happy pumpkin. We chose him because he had a stout stem and a round face.

This is how he ended up.

He looks so pretty, yeah? Look at his little teeth and slanty eyes. Kawaii! Reina and I took CfP to the petting zoo. There was a goat and a pig and some geese, and the pig chased the geese around and CfP got scared, but it was still fun. He also rode the ferris wheel. We took this picture right after he got home from the Halloween fair. He is so happy, isn't he?

But alas. He caught a bug. This is how he looked a couple days later. Note the mold growing out the side of his mouth. Oh the pumpkinity! Oh the pumkinity!

...

Sadness. RIP, CfP. If anybody knows why he died such an untimely death, please. Let us know.

Update.

I moved out of the garage because it was too smoky. I will be inside until the smoke clears.

...

I can't help thinking about what's next. Recession. Terrorists. War. Fire. Bush. And Arnold. More Fire. Smoke. Ash. Even more fire. I keep waiting for something else. Like an earthquake. Or Gabriel's Trumpet. Or THE FLASH. Yet, it goes on. Which is good. I guess.

At a certain point, you cease being able to say anything about it. It's just sort of a given and you sit around thinking "well. what now?"

And the world burned.

One thousand acres have been burned in Valley Center so far, and it's beginning to show for miles. This morning at 7:30 am, the sky was rife with smoke and the sun struggled to clear the night from the horizon, despite its headstart this Daylight Savings morning. Ash floats down from the sky like snow and it smells like the 4th of July. And it is cold.
