In the long run.

Sheena's last post is this rant about this girl she was best friends with 3 years ago. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with ditching her friends to go to prom with some guy, and then deciding she really didn't need her friends anyway afterall. Something like that. I never did get the whole story.

But it surprises me that she puts that much thought into somehow thousands of miles away, who she hasn't seen in years. I have trouble keeping in touch with people I want to keep in touch with who live just minutes away (Julie, if you're reading this, I promise I'll call. Krystle, we'll definitely do that tango thing soon.) If people aren't regularly connected to the internet, I seem to lose contact with them. If Jessica Ruvalcaba wasn't on at the same time I am in the morning (well, evening for London), I would most likely lose touch. If Patrick wasn't on all the time, it'd be significantly more difficult to know what the hell he was up to.

A month, a year, goes by so easily, you know? And by that time it's almost like they don't exist anymore except as some faded wisp of something you may have once been a part of. I've lost more friends than I can count this way. So it amazes and impresses me that Sheena can harbor that much emotion about someone she hasn't seen in such a long time.

Sheena, count me impressed.

A Sad Sad Day.

A Miramesa Suburb. The Driveway. 6 am.

Old Guy taking a walk in the morning: Filipino?
Me: Excuse me?
OG: You. Filipino?
Me: Oh. Uh. No. Chinese.
OG: Chinese! Me! Zhang Guoyi?
...
Me: Uh. A little. I mean, um. Let's see. Yi ... Yi Dian. Wait. Did you? You meant Cantonese, right? So uh. I mean. Sew sew.
...
Me: No.

Translation.
Zhang Guoyi: Do you speak Chinese?
Yi Dian: A little. Mandarin.
Sew Sew: A little. Cantonese.
No: No. English.

My Team Blows.

I had the privilege of seeing the Anaheim Mighty Ducks get their asses handed to them again on Friday Night, at the Pond. They are now 0-4-0-1 (that's four losses and an overtime loss), and are at the bottom of the league after last season's miraculous rise to the Stanley Cup Finals.

"0-4-0-1?" you ask? Allow me to explain the points system. 2 for a win. 0 for a loss. 1 for a tie or overtime loss. But that point for their overtime loss? That's a sympathy point. A you-almost-didn't-suck point.

That is a sad, sad, lonely, lonely point.

Let's go, Ducks. Be the mighty team you were in last year's post-season. Flying V, guys. Flying V.
